In terms of the number of passengers served, Prague Airport is the biggest airport in the Czech Republic
and in all the new European Union member countries and the second biggest in Central Europe.
With its exceptional location in the centre of Europe, Prague Airport is also gaining in importance as a transfer hub.
The Czech Republic’s accession to the EU in 2004 and to the Schengen area in 2007 have been major factors in the
long-term growth. From the end of March, boarding flights to Schengen countries will take place without any
customs and passport controls.
Although low-cost airlines have contributed to the growth, Czech Airlines remains the largest carrier with almost half share of
the market. Passengers voting in the prestigious World Airport Awards rated Prague Airport the best airport in
Central and Eastern Europe.
With net profits of over a billion Czech koruna and a workforce of 2,395 people, Prague Airport is also one of
the most successful companies in the Czech Republic. In autumn 2007 the Czech government declared its intention to
privatise Prague Airport. Read more in the blog.
